WienCont reports strong growth in container business

Increasing container handling and storage with WienCont in the first quarter of 2011 thanks to uptrend in export business

 

The WienCont group, a company of the Port of Vienna, which is affiliated to Wien Holding, reports strong growth for the first quarter of 2011. The enterprise was able to rise container handling volumes by 21 per cent in this period, compared the first quarter of the previous year.

In total the WienCont group, which runs locations in the Port of Vienna as well as in Krems, Graz, Wels and Villach, handled 127,955 TEU in the first three months of 2011. The 105,000 m² container terminal in Vienna showed the biggest increase with 112,625 TEU, followed by Villach and Graz. Also the container storage and repair segments showed a positive development in the first three months: In total 603,348 TEU were stored on the terminals of WienCont. Thanks to the global shortage in containers they were able to repair 2,197 containers, which is around 20 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2010.
