Parcel & Logistics Division of the Post achieved turnaround in 2010

Parcel & Logistics Division of the Austrian Post AG expects positive effects for 2011 resulting from improving international conditions

The year 2010 took a pleasing course for the Parcel & Logistics Division of the Austrian Post AG. Thanks to increasing volumes total revenue increased 4.4 per cent to EUR 802 million. Although parcel volumes are increasing again the price situation remained tense, says Austrian Post CEO Georg Pölzl at the balance press conference. EBIT (before the voluntary severance payment expenses) of the Parcel & Logistics Division rose by EUR 20.3 million compared to 2009 to EUR 11.0 million.

The premium parcel product segment (parcel delivery within 24 hours) generated total revenue of EUR 630.5 million in 2010. This corresponds to a 1 per cent-rise, which was negatively affected by the termination of loss-making transport logistics operations in Germany in the middle of 2009. The adjusted revenue in this product segment in Germany shows a volume increase of 8.5 per cent year-on-year, which is mainly related to new customer acquisition. The German subsidiary trans-o-flex accounted for approximately three quarters of the premium parcel revenue. The business parcel segment in Austria, where Austrian Post enjoys a 15 per cent-market share, and in South East and Eastern Europe also continued to develop very positively.

The standard parcels segment in Austria posted an even higher growth rate, with revenue rising by 19.5 per cent to EUR 160.8 million. The main reasons for this positive development were organic growth, the increased mail order business since June 2009 as well as parcel volumes shifted from the premium to the standard segment. In total 56 million consignments were transported in Austria, which means a years-on-year increase of 12 per cent.

For the near future of the Parcel & Logistics Division the management of the Austrian Post draws a rosy picture. Due to improved international economic conditions, growth of over 6 per cent p.a. is expected on a medium-term basis and also in the 2011 financial year.
