OOCL reports substantial growth on Asia/Europe trade

Hong Kong headquartered cintainer shipping line OOCL saw growth in both volume and turnover in the past financial year 2014

Hong Kong based shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) published its first figures for 2014 on 30 January. Accordingly, the volume transported worldwide amounting to 5.58 million TEU was 5.5 per cent above last year’s level. On Asia/Europe trade volume grew significantly by 16.1 per cent to 979,659 TEU. Trans-Atlantic volume however declined by 2.5 per cent to 384,988 TEU.

As the Hong Kong-based G6 Alliance member announced, annual turnover 2014 amounted to about USD 5.8 billion, which is up 3.5 per cent compared to 2013. Asia/Europe trade gained 16.1 per cent to USD 979.6 million; Trans-Atlantic sales amounted to USD 600.5 million (-2.4%).

The overall load factor of the OOCL fleet remained almost stable. Overall average revenue per TEU decreased by 1.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.
