LH Cargo: First direct service from Europe to Manaus

Lufthansa Cargo expands its network in South America to Manaus in the Amazon Basin

Lufthansa Cargo is expanding its route network in South America in the coming year. Pending the authorities’ approval, the cargo airline will begin serving the Brazilian metropolis of Manaus for the first time, on 21 January 2011. A MD-11 offering 90 tons of cargo hold will take off from Frankfurt to Manaus in the Brasilian hinterland twice per week. On Mondays and Fridays the services to the city in the Amazon Basin will be available with stopovers in Dakar and Viracopos, São Paulo. The return flights via Quito and Bogotá, with a technical stop in Curacao, will leave Manaus on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“Manaus has evolved as a free trade zone into one of Brazil’s major industrial centers“, said Achim Martinka, Lufthansa Cargo’s Vice President of the Americas. “With our new connections, we are expanding our customized product to accommodate the increased demand from the high-tech industry, especially in Asia”. With its new flight offer Lufthansa Cargo is the only cargo carrier to offer direct connections between Europe and Manaus.
