Gebrüder Weiss completely takes over Spedition Diehl

Esslingen-based freight forwarder Spedition Diehl to be integrated into the network of Gebrüder Weiss (region West) and keeps its renowned company name

The Austrian transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss raises its stake in the Esslingen-based freight forwarder Spedition Diehl from previously 25 to one hundred per cent. Both companies signed the relevant agreement on 11 April 2012. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities. The company, based in Baden-Württemberg and with offices in Esslingen, Untermünkheim, Karlsruhe and Tuttlingen, will be integrated into the Gebrüder Weiss network (region West) as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

“Diehl has been an important partner of Gebrüder Weiss for a long time and maintains excellent customer relationships in this economically relevant area,” says Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Member of the Management Board at Gebrüder Weiss. “In this respect, the company perfectly complements our two southern German locations in Memmingen and Passau.” The new owner intends to pursue the strategic direction of Spedition Wilhelm Diehl. The company continues to operate under that name.

Diehl and Gebrüder Weiss started their cooperation over 13 years ago. During this time, the two System Alliance Europe (SAE) members have set up 17 direct transport links – 13 of which are daily ones. Diehl’s portfolio includes all services in the field of transport and warehouse logistics. In early 2010, Gebrüder Weiss had taken over 25 per cent of the company.

Established in 1933 the Wilhelm Diehl forwarding company has about 350 employees at seven locations in Germany, who handle an annual volume of about 1 million shipments (700,000 tonnes). Annual turnover amounted to EUR 70 million lately.
