Decline in airfreight at Vienna International Airport

Economic slump reduces airfreight volume at Vienna International Airport

The global economic and financial crisis has its impact on the air cargo business at the Vienna International Airport (VIE). In February 17,513 tons of goods had been handled (air cargo and trucking). This is a 19.3 per cent decline compared to the previous year. In the first two months of 2009 the Vienna Airport put through 33,746 tons of airfreight, which is 20.9 per cent less than in 2008.

Also the number of passengers (minus 16.5%) and of flight movements (minus 12.6%) showed a decline. The same applies to the maximum take off weight (minus 11.9 %).
