WLB Cargo achieved growth in 2008

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo recorded growth in all freight transport areas

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo GmbH (WLB Cargo) is quite satisfied with the results of the financial year 2008. With a total volume of 2.84 million tons the enterprise could achieve a year-on-year growth of 200,000 tons or 7.5 per cent. As Gerhard Retscher, Managing Director, announced last week, the enterprise achieved increases in combined transport as well as in conventional single wagon transport. Transportations of cars from Neuss near Cologne to Schwertberg im Mühlviertel have been ceased in September 2008. In the first two months of 2009 the private railway company was able to keep the level of 2008 in spite of a slight decline in train journeys.

Last year Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo transported 76,000 tons of freight on their own rail network in inland traffic, which is about the same volume registered in 2007. In addition to 13 Taurus-locomotives the enterprise deploys four diesel locomotives. 30 of the 55 employees are train drivers.
