The new quay of Brajdica Container Terminal in the Port of Rijeka, which is operated by the company Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) has been put into operation lately. The berth is 320 meters long and the equipment, consisting of two Post Panamax STS high tonnage cranes, six RTGs and two RMGs, is valued at over EUR 23 million.

Thanks to this investment, AGCT is now as technologically equipped as the most modern ports in the world. This will enable the company to reach its strategic goal of transforming the Port of Rijeka into an inevitable destination for cargo being transported by maritime routes from all over the world to Central and Southeast Europe, the company announces in a press release.

From 2011 to the present the company has invested nearly EUR 30 million in the development of the container terminal and the purchase of new equipment. Additional EUR 35 million is planned to be invested in the upcoming years. To take full advantage of the traffic capacity potential of the port in Rijeka, some of the railway connections to Central and Southeast Europe must be reconstructed, which will enable more than 60 percent of the port’s cargo to be transported by railways.

The company Adriatic Gate Container Terminal was established in 2001 in Rijeka as a daughter company of the Port of Rijeka and it is the concession holder of the Brajdica Container Terminal. Since then, AGCT has been operating as a public-private partnership, in which the ICTSI has 51% and the Port of Rijeka 49% percent of shares. The goal of AGCT during the 30-year concession period (from 2011 to 2041) is to develop Rijeka into the largest port for container traffic in the markets of Central and Southeastern Europe and to push the annual troughput to 245,000 TEU by 2015.
