Parcel service company GLS enters Croatian market

GLS Croatia to start with four own parcel logistics branches; offer comprises national service with international connection

The European parcel service company GLS has expanded its presence in Southeast Europe to Croatia. The national branch founded therefore has started operation on August 1, 2013. The enterprise starts operating with locations in Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Osijek. The depot in the capital, which serves also as national distribution centre, includes a high-performance parcel sorting plant combined with modern security technology. International GLS transports will also depart from this location in future.

From September 1, 2013, international westbound GLS transportations offering daily departures to Ljubljana (Slovenia), Ansfelden near Linz and to the GLS Europahub in Neuenstein (Germany) will be handled via Zagreb. Connection to East Europe is offered via the GLS hub in Budapest within 24 to 48 hours.

Following the set-up of new companies in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary and Slovenia, GLS Croatia is founding another start-up company within this region. The GLS group has previously been serving the market in Croatia through cooperation with a network partner. “Demand will be rising because of the EU accession and the abolition of the customs frontiers, which makes local presence more important in the future“, the management explains the reasons for entering the market with the company’s own name.
