Delay of restructuring plan at ZIM shipping company

Urgent need for restoration at ZIM Integrated Shipping Services

The Israeli shipping group ZIM has delays in the implementation of its restructuring measures. The main owner Israel Corporation has postponed a meeting, at which details of the urgently required restoration should have been set, to 28 October, as the “Financial Times“ reports. According to official statements from Israel this gives the ZIM Management more time to set up a comprehensive package of measures.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, based in Haifa, is, like numerous other international container shipping companies, one of the most affected by the global financial and economic crisis. Considerable declines in transport volumes and an ambitious program to expand the fleet are causing troubles for the enterprise. In the first six months of 2009 ZIM showed a turnover of USD 1.7 billion and losses of around USD 300 million.
