25 years of Militzer & Münch in Poland: export hit foodstuffs

The Polish Militzer & Münch organization today celebrates its 25th anniversary. Headquartered in Warsaw and with branch offices in Wrocław, Krakow and Pruszków, M&M air sea cargo S.A. offers its customers all the services covering the entire supply chain. Amongst the air freight forwarders in Poland Militzer & Münch currently ranks on position 10.

25 years ago, the country’s focus was on imports – today, Poland is a successful export nation: Apart from automobile and machine parts, spare parts for airplanes and cosmetics, especially food is among Poland’s most demanded goods. With a turnover of 53 billion euros on the Polish logistics market in 2014, the country ranks 7th at this time in the European comparison. In 2015, Poland exported foodstuffs worth 23.6 billion euros, an eight percent increase to the previous year. The main goods transported are dairy products, beverages, chocolate, cookies, and pet food. The Polish Militzer & Münch organization profited from this development, too.

 Fast growth
In the early 1990s, there was high demand for groupage shipments in Poland. To meet this demand, Militzer & Münch opened the Polish unit, M&M Militzer & Münch Polska sp. z o. o., in May 1991, with a separate air freight unit following in 1992.   “We were the first company with an office at the Warsaw Chopin Airport cargo terminal”, says Wojciech Łyżwiński, Managing Director of M&M air sea cargo S.A. “Growing fast, we were able to offer our customers comprehensive services already in late 1992: conventional and container rail freight, break bulk cargo and groupage, airfreight and customs clearance.” On 1st April 1998, the air unit was separated and transformed into an independent company under the name M&M air cargo service Polska S.A.

Everything under one name
Since 2011, the Polish Militzer & Münch activities have been represented by M&M air sea cargo S.A. “M&M air sea cargo S.A. is an important part of the Militzer & Münch Group”, says Dr. Lothar Thoma, CEO M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG. “With the excellent work done by Managing Director Wojciech Łyżwiński and his team, we were able to continuously expand our services in Poland.” For the last two years, Militzer & Münch generated an increase in transports by 19 percent in Poland.

National and international
The major part of the shipments handled by M&M air sea cargo S.A. are transports between Poland and the United States, the Middle East, the Far East, and Africa. Today, the portfolio comprises air and sea freight as well as project logistics and customs clearance. “Sea freight is in especially high demand”, says Wojciech Łyżwiński. “Among our key customers are companies from the automotive sector, from machine engineering, aviation, the cosmetics and the fashion industries, electronics and food. Especially concerning the foodstuff industry, we see potential also for the coming years.”
